Valid or Not

Having an opinion has a negative connotation especially in my world, always seen but never want to be heard. But having an opinion is an important aspect that makes us who we are.
We have all heard or seen how Twitter is toxic and how it is bad for your mental health, which is 100% correct. However, that is not the only reason why I deactivated my account.
Every time I’d watch something on TV or read a book, I’d always log on to twitter afterwards if not during. I wanted to check what everyone was saying and slowly the opinions and thoughts I had about whatever I’d be watching or reading would slightly change. What I found cute, would turn to a 'red flag' and what I found disgusting, I would slowly accept. I would literally disregard my thoughts because 50 people are seeing it in a different perspective. Now that I look at it, it was slow poison because I got to a point where I didn’t believe that my opinion was valid. I feared the question: “what do you think?” because I was scared to be ‘wrong’ or to say something different from the rest. I just didn’t think my opinion mattered or had substance.
Your thoughts are valid. Don’t get me wrong, you can go and expand your knowledge or perspective but for me at that time, it was doing more harm than good.
Same thing goes in real life, my views would change because someone had a different one and sometimes, I’d be right.
After this realization, I deleted twitter and that was the best decision ever (no shade to Jack Dorsey). But I gained confidence and for the first time ever I had a voice. I don’t mind being different and I hope you don’t too. My friend once described me as a cool light bulb amongst warm light bulbs and I loved it. That’s when I knew I was done putting myself off and being okay with myself.
I used to pray for discernment in all aspects of my life, but I realized how would you have the spirit of discernment if you are always shaping your views according to someone else other than God.
No matter how old you are or whatever life experience you might have. I advise you to express your opinion (with understanding of course) and rather be corrected than to be quiet. The world needs your voice. I pray that you find your True Personality in Him.
If there is one thing you should take out from this post is, do not be easily influenced by this world. Thank you for reading!
